Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Riley Oran Tue Jun 03, 2014 2:49 am

Bobby's darkened expression lightened at Kate's soothing tone, even if just a little bit at first, before it faded into a calm depression on her brow. Even despite Kate's assurances, Bobby wasn't sure it seemed right. Twisting nature like that felt so wrong. Not the termination of a parasite, but to change a child that one intended to have! The idea was maddening to her, but she had to let it go. If she dwelt on it, that would only make her look bad since Kate clearly had come to terms with it a long time ago. How selfish Bobby had been, then, in not seeing that earlier.

Then Kate announced that there was more to the secret than that, and before Bobby could process what was even happening Kate dis-robbed before her very eyes, revealing a large and fluffy tail. She wore elegant but simple clothing beneath her disguise, almost as if she was ready to rip it off at any moment and join the rest of the world as though nothing was the matter. There was an air of confidence to her, something bold in the tragedy that she had been relayed. A beautiful survivor it seemed, and Bobby couldn't help but admire her presence.

Even sitting down she seemed to carry a tremendous presence on her shoulders, though that same pressure seemed to alleviate when she became enthralled by her own tail. Much like the ears, and the fangs, and the... eyes too, one might guess. As Kate mentioned how normal people loved her hair, Bobby once more reached a hand towards her head, stopping shorter than before and withdrawing it down, before the movement could have an actual meaning. Bobby hated her hair. She tried growing it out, but ever since she was little she had hated it. That's why it was short, and even as an adult she kept it as such.

Kate offered that if there were such an option to become a normal human, she would decline it. Bobby was still too fixated on everything else, though, and her eyes curiously followed Kate's hand as she attended to her tail. This girl was absolutely gorgeous, if in a very unconventional way. "I'm not even sure that surgery like that exists," Bobby stated incredulously. "I mean, isn't that tail," she almost couldn't believe she was asking another person this, "connected to your spine? Wouldn't them removing it be... bad?"

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

"I'm not even sure that surgery like that exists," Mae said to her. Kate looked at her keeping whatever expression she had not changing it in the slightest other than to show she was listening. What Kate had said was hypothetical. She was expressing her content with the way she was. Kate continued to stroke her own tails as Mae finished talking. She didn't know why Mae was discussing the technicalities of such a thing. She almost sounded like a guy. Indeed there was no doubt Mae was a tomboy. Kate found men these days really liked tomboys especially the pretty ones. Kate was incapable of pulling off the look. Men did not have clothing suitable for hiding a tail.

For both their sake Kate chose to take Mae's response as something she hadn't quite intended. "I am glad you agree. Why would anyone want to cut off such a beautiful tail. My ears as well, they let me hear things you couldn't even imagine possible. Why would anyone want to get rid of that." Actually Kate could think of a reason but that wasn't the point she was trying to give. "My sense of smell is also just as good as a wolves. Now you know much about me nearly my whole life, but I know very little about you. Where are you from, do you have any current love interests, and why do you chose to stay in this awful city? It probably does not seem that bad to you, but my ears and nose are killing me. Most the people do not seem very friendly either, at least not as friendly as I am use to." Kate hoped that comment would not offend Mae.

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Riley Oran Tue Jun 03, 2014 3:26 pm

Kate responded with the point that her tail was beautiful, seeming to agree with a phantom point that Bobby didn't actually make. Bobby was concerned with the pain of the procedure, not the aesthetics. Though, she nodded in reply anyway. It was beautiful in an unconventional fashion. Certainly very different from what Kate was used too. In fact, despite seeming to be taking this well Bobby just hadn't been hit by it all yet. She saw the situation, but was repeatedly failing to comprehend it, but eventually she would understand the weight of her discovery. Maybe she needed time to reflect, or maybe she just needed to sleep on it.

Kate then barraged Bobby with a barrage of questions. Where was she from? She was from right here in the city. In this town she had grown up, though frequently enough she had left it to go see her family in other parts of the country. As for love interests? A few cute guys here or there... none of them were interested in her. She was pretty, she knew, even though she had cut her hair and tried to be more masculine. She just didn't seem approachable if the conclusion could be drawn from that. However, Kate just walked right up to her? Maybe she didn't give herself enough credit. Or maybe it was something else entirely.

Kate's questions seemed to focus mostly on why Bobby lived in the city, rather than Bobby's past, so she just focused on that part. The other questions weren't that relevant to the core part of discussion it seemed. "I'm from here," she replied in a sort of tired tone. Despite the fatigue in the voice some interest in the conversation was shining through. She was definitely able to talk to Kate. Kate was weird, Bobby was weird... there was a bizarre level of comfort in that fact. Weird in different ways, but it was something she could at the very least relate to.

Skipping over the love interests, she went straight to the city. "I've just always been here, I guess. I'm used to it. When I was little I used to leave a lot more to go see my relatives, and I was only here occasionally for school. But whenever I wasn't, I was in another part of the country. My family members I used to see outside of town have all passed away," she seemed a little sad at the mentioning of this, but it wasn't anything substantial. It was much more reflective than mournful, as if nostalgic rather than tragic.

"I'm not really sure why I'm still here, to be honest. I guess It's just familiar to me. It's... easier. I guess that's why everybody is so anti-social. It's just easier to be involved with what you know." She really had no idea, but if she had to venture a guess that would be it.

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Kate Tue Jun 03, 2014 5:14 pm

Mae told Kate she has just always lived here. Kate thought everyone should travel. It was a very fun thing to do and it opened your mind. Then again Kate did not have a bubble of comfort that the others in this city have built. This made moving around and approaching strangers much easier for Kate then others. Part of her willingness to talk to random strangers was her confidence and her lack of concern for what people thought of her. Obviously she cared what her friends thought though and her conversations were always geared towards making the person she was talking with comfortable. It was a chore but Kate enjoyed it, she was sick of being alone and now she wasn't. Though her wolf attributes caused some trouble. She did wish for more friends to know about it but was concerned it would put their friendship in jeopardy. Kate did not really care if people knew she was a goddess or not and so it was likely she would never tell anyone. All they needed to know is she was royalty. After all Kate was a very proud wolf.

"Would you like to travel around with me? You need not worry about expenses, I will take care of that. There are perks to being a friend with someone of Royal blood." Kate asked. She expected the answer to be a no, but would try anyways. "While you think on that want to go gamble at the casino?"

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Riley Oran Wed Jun 04, 2014 12:23 pm

Kate's response was utterly surprising to Bobby. An invitation to travel? "I-I..." She wasn't really sure what to think. She couldn't possibly accept. She had a job here. Family. Provided, she didn't really see them any more... and even the Irish Wildflowers bloom in bunches. She'd basically been alone for months, but to uproot her life-- her entire life and just travel? With royalty, no less! Even though she was assured that money would be no concern, she didn't want to be a leech, much less be one so happily.

She would love to go, though. She didn't want to stay here anymore in this lonely apartment, with an unsatisfying job while grasping out for somebody to try to approach her and be her friend. Kate had done that, though, and was markedly the first. No guys had come up to hit on her like in movies, or other people come to sweep her off on random adventures until right now. This was the moment. This was her chance. And, yet...

"I don't know." The words limply fell from her mouth, summing her emotions and thoughts on the matter. Everything added up into uncertainty and Bobby was nervous. Anxiety crept over her shoulders and laid fangs into her neck, giving her cause to shiver as it siphoned away the little confidence she had built up. "I just... there's so much I have to take care of before I even consider it." It wasn't true comparatively, but at this very moment she dreaded cutting the few ties to her world that remained.

"But... maybe gambling would help me think about it." Bobby had never really gambled before. She'd delivered packages to casinos but aside from that, had never given it a second thought. Right now though she wanted to be sure of what the right choice was. She had to verify her ideas and see which one was correct. Accompanying Kate was surely the best way to do that.

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Kate could easily tell the invitation was shocking as she seemed to fumble around with the offer stuttering and pausing before she finally said she didn't know. Kate was glad at least that the answer was not an immediate no. This meant there was still hope left in a yes. Mae then agreed to going to the casino. Even if her answer turned out to be a no Kate knew they were going to have a lot of fun. "I am sorry tail but I must hide you away from the jealous eyes of the world once again." Kate said before putting on her cloak and raising the hood. One might think Kate crazy but she was just goofing around. Kate believed there should always be a little humor in any given situation.

Since Mae had not changed her clothing since they arrived Kate presumed she was ready to go and took her wrist dragging her to the door. Kate put on her shoes an the two headed out. Once they reached the street Kate brought up an additional stop. "I would like to go to where my clothing is being washed so I can change out of this unwanted attention grabbing cloak. They are finished by now and I know how to get there however the route I would take would most definitely be much longer. You may know the shortest way or at least a shorter way. The place is called Bernados Dry Cleaning and Laundromat. Have you heard of it?"

Before Bobby could even react to Kate's affectionate praising of her own tail (apologetically tell it that it had to go away seemed to be praise in her mind) she was being dragged out of the house. She wanted to say something, but at the same time, if only for a few moments letting another person take the lead was nice. Even still, she still managed to blurt out a question before they stopped. "Where are we going?" As they reached the street, Kate asked Bobby if she knew where a particular laundromat was.

Knew where it was? Bobby practically lived there. After her last urban adventure she had to run her clothing through four different machines before that sewage smell finally came out. "Of course," she replied with her confidence seeming to rebound. She pointed towards the alley between them and the apartment. "Through there, hang a left and it's just another couple of blocks."

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Kate Wed Jun 04, 2014 10:56 pm

"Oh my, see this would have taken 30 times longer if not more had you not pointed that out. I don't know the area very well but I say we walk into the second casino we run into." Kate said that because she was rather sure the first casino would be the one she had been in earlier in the day and even with the change of clothing they would probably recognize her pretty face and she didn't want that.

The two made their way into the building and who she saw there waiting arose a mixture of emotions within Kate. How did Butters hide his sent from her and why did he smell so painfully strong of.......oh myself(get it cuz shes a goddess instead of my god its......... *sigh* I really need to just give up) did he really do that just to over power his scent so she wouldn't notice him. Kate didn't know weather to feel happy or sorry for the women he used. She supposed it just depended on the women. But jeez why so strong, she was sure even the humans could smell him. Butters was more lucky than Kate. He was a younger god and had chosen to transform into a human form much earlier than Kate, but that was just because Kate had been around for awhile before humans were. Butters only had a sheep tail in his human form and unlike her tail it was very easy to hide. It was not fluffy, shiny, and well groomed as Kate's was. He simply wrapped it around his waist like a belt and then stuck an actual belt over it.

The only reason Kate hadn't killed the god before or looked for a way to eliminate him permanently was because she pitted him. For a god stuck revenge in his name he wasn't really evil. He was more annoying and mischief making than evil. He also wasn't all that smart either. Back in the day when people actually believed in gods they most thought they were all; all knowing and all powerful. Really though gods are like humans in they come in all shapes in sizes or at least they use to. With so few gods around now days. Also the actual animal gods were few now. Most of the gods now days had the form of a human. Kate thought they were missing out. They aren't as in tune with nature as the animal gods were which was a shame. The animals were nice companions when traveling around.

It was too late to turn around now and the bothersome god was already making his move. Kate knew what he was up to and she had to hand it to him that it was a rather cleaver move, but there were a couple things he didn't consider. For starts fortune was always on her side. Kate growled in such a genuine matter that one would actually think it was a wolf growling and it was but that's not how she appeared. Indeed a few people did turn their head expecting to see a husky or something when they found none they just returned to what they were doing. Kate glanced at one of the dogs in the building and it knew what to do. She was one step ahead of Butters.

Butters walked up to the two and began speaking ignoring Kate's warnings. "So what l....." he was able to say to Mae before being cut off by something. A few moments earlier after Kate gave the single the dog had took off towards Butters so suddenly that his leash fell from his owners grasp. The the dog ran up and chomped down on Butters legs. He screamed in agony and kicked the dog away. "Wretched filth" He spat at the creature. "You really think such a thing will stop me." He angry said to Kate. Kate gave Butters a death stare and suddenly he realized the danger he was in. If he did anything to sow mistrust into the two's relation ship Kate would have no reason to hold back. Not to mention he just kicked one of her canines. As much as Butters wanted to follow through and ruin Kate's day just when it got good he really did not want to be eaten alive by Kate. "This isn't over." he said before walking out the door leaving a satisfying red trail behind him. Kate really wished he had 'I'll get you' lines that were funny. The dog came up next to Kate thankfully uninjured. Kate bent down and pet the dog. The owner came running over both embarrassed her dog had done that and upset the man treated her baby so meanly. "I'm surprised he warmed up to you so quickly. He is not a mean dog and what he just did has never happened before but he not a very social one." She said to the cloaked girl still not quite believing what had just happened. "Have you ever heard of the show the dog whisperer?" Kate asked the lady but didn't wait for a reply. "Well I am far better than him. All dogs are my friends. I am a legend among them." "Well if you have him convinced then you have me convinced." responded the lady who went to grab a paper towel to clean up the red mess. Kate simply ignored the mess that she had caused and proceeded to gather her clothing. She imagined that Mae was also rather shocked by what just happened and was about to throw out some questions any moment now.

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Riley Oran Thu Jun 05, 2014 9:25 am

"Yeah, sounds great," Bobby replied to Kate's casino proposal. She wondered why the second one, but waved it off as a gambling myth that related to luck. She wasn't a gambler, so she wasn't sure exactly why it mattered. Bobby wasn't sure what just happened. One moment they were planning to gamble, and the next Kate loosed a guttural growl the likes of which she'd never heard outside of movies. It sounded like a wolf warning off a threat, but that would be silly, right? Maybe not so much. There was a wolf girl right next to her, after all.

She could hear a scream and turned to face where Kate was looking, seeing a rather innocuous man. He started to bleed from what only could have been a dog bite, and the dog in his proximity confirmed this theory well enough. With a leg injury he still approached the two, determined by the looks of it to say something to Kate. She hadn't heard him address her earlier due to her preoccupation with Kate, admittedly. It was infatuation to be sure, and it was definitely clouding her senses.

Though now, she was alert by necessity. The man before them seemed to provoke Kate, and he talked to her like he knew her from somewhere. Though, they were obviously not on friendly terms. Parting with a typical "bad guy" line from a television show he sauntered off, leaving a trail of crimson behind him. The dog that had bit the man seemed to just approach Kate and wait by her side as the owner followed suit. Kate demonstrated a great affinity for the creature, but was this really so surprising? Given what Bobby had just learned about her new friend, it wasn't all that surprising.

Friend. What a pleasant realization.

With the situation more or less resolved, Bobby had a few questions. Prompts seemed to jolt through her head, racing through her brain as she struggled to understand what just occurred. Obviously the sheep man knew Kate from before, but how? Maybe he was just a creeper. Those did exist, too. Bobby lead in with the obvious question. "Did you know that guy?"

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Kate Thu Jun 05, 2014 5:37 pm

Mae asked a rather simple question, did she know him. "Yes, as you might know I am not from this continent," Well actually Kate was. She originated in what is now called North America and use to have a fair bit of territory in what is now the state Idaho within the US. For lying purposes though she was not from here and indeed its been a few hundred years since she last stepped foot in North America. "he also is not from here. I had stolen a few of his sheep," Kate said winking in an attempt to imply that by stolen she meant eaten. "He hasn't forgiven me. I wish it was as simple as giving him money to leave me alone but that will not satisfy him. He is set on revenge and while he can come up with some semi clever plans, he is not very wise."

Kate found an outfit to wear and excused herself to the restroom to change. She came wearing a long purple skirt. It started out as a very light purple at the top and gradual turned into a dark purple at the bottom. The bottom was also embroidered with flowers. On top she wore a strapless white tank top one of the ones that didn't expose the belly. On each wrist she wore a bracelet which was adorned with sapphires and around the sapphires were tiny diamonds. Fake diamonds right? Maybe *whistles innocently* Kate wore no hat. Instead she had taken some of her hair and braided it over her head to like like she was wearing a hair band only a braided one. It was braided over her ears to keep them down and only someone who knew what they were looking for would be able to spot the ears under them.

Kate walked up to the guy at the counter. "Can I stick my clothing behind your counter for now? I'll come back for it later." Kate asked the boy. Well actually he was a man but Kate considered all humans to be little girls and boys. He was taken a back by the question and said yes since he didn't know what to say. Kate thanked him and turned to Mae. "What do you think?"

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Riley Oran Fri Jun 06, 2014 10:13 am

Stolen a few of his sheep...? Was that a euphemism for something? The little wink seemed to imply such. Maybe it was like how people counted sheep to sleep... she slept with him?! Bobby's heart sank a little bit, but she wasn't really sure why. The implication made her feel a little lost, and a tint of jealously took root inside her for but the briefest of moments. But then, she felt a tad better. It seemed that probably something had happened between them, yet giving what Bobby had assumed the idea of paying the man off seemed almost like...

Oh god, was he a prostitute? Her wild fantasies were raging out of control, flights of fancy hijacked by uncertain emotions. It was long before Kate found a reason to excuse herself though, and as she did Bobby went and found a place to sit down and reflect. What was happening to her? She'd made some weird choices today. The first one made sense, she guessed... but this was weird. She felt a strange physical attraction to Kate, and she knew that it was strange for her. She wanted very much to dismiss it outright, and was mostly successful in doing so. Still, something felt off to her about herself.

She was never normally like... this. Whatever 'this' was. It wasn't that she never looked at cute guys, but it was always difficult for her to be interested in men beyond something passive. This interest she held now in Kate was a lot more involved on her part. Hell, she was about to agree to travel with her to who-knows-where, and why? Because Kate was a first for her in a few ways. The first person to actually challenge Bobby's comfort zone successfully, for starters. The first person Bobby actually invited off the street to her home (though, did that really count? It didn't seem like a common occurrence).

Her first actual friend, too. Bobby was a very singular person up until now. As a child she had friends-- who didn't? And there were people who were nice or neutral towards her, of course. People she was familiar with or knew of, as well. But she was used to a lonely little apartment, with not even a pet. She had wanted to get a dog, but her landlord had told her no. So, for the longest time it had just been Bobby not really interacting with anybody. That was probably why she was so uncertain of her feelings now. It's really easy to just... attach to something, when you've never really had anything before. Was that all this was? A fleeting friendship? They had only really been 'friends' for a few minutes.

She couldn't afford to think like that, and was in the process of convincing herself otherwise when a voice cut through and jarred her from her thoughts. That question caught her off guard, and her eyes bounced up and down Kate's clothing, and her eyes lit up. "Oh, wow! You look so good!" Bobby mean that genuinely, and was legitimately excited. She was tomboyish, but even tomboys had their likes. While she couldn't shop very well, she recognized a nice outfit when she saw one.

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

"Thank you." Kate responded. She hadn't expected a compliment of that caliber, but gratefully welcomed it. Now it was time for the two of them to head to the casino. Kate didn't ask for directions from Mae she just kinda went and wondered around. It must have been amusing for Mae if she didn't offer some directions that is or maybe wait a bit be amused then offer direction. It didn't really matter. Kate was enjoying herself and she was in no hurry to get to their destination.

Kate knew Mae was going to have fun. She was hanging around Kate the goddess of fortune. Mae will not run out of money at the casino and when they walk out she will have more than she carried in. The actually gain will not be very significant as she hasn't been around Kate very long at all, but walking out a place of entertainment with more than you walked in with is always a joyful experience.

When they arrived at the casino Kate showed Mae what to do since she hadn't actually been to one before. They traded in some money for some chips and set about. Kate was going to keep things on a down low. She was not going to win much on purpose, so as not to raise alarm. "So where do you want to go first. Personally I do not like the slot machines. The happiness they bring is only from winning and I do not care much for money. I prefer the card games, the games where your mind is actually engaged in what you are doing. Do you know what all there is? Do you want me to list some things off or shall we just wonder around, my personal favorite?"

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Riley Oran Sat Jun 07, 2014 1:01 am

(Lost my previous post wah. This one won't be as good)

Before Bobby had even realized what had happened, she was at Kate's back again and following her towards uncertainty. Well, that wasn't exactly true for the moment, but as the minutes ticked on Bobby was ever more tempted to accept the wolf-girl's offer of travel, ludicrous as it was. In a way, this was a journey into the unknown. Bobby had never really thought much on her own. She never needed to. Things were simple. Wake up, work, eat, sleep, with some television or urban exploring spread out in between. Admittedly, she was feeling uncomfortable with being the follower now. Since she'd left her parents she'd been the one in control. The leader and follower of her own life, the architect of her personal world.

Letting go of that was not so easy as she wished for it to be. All the same, it was still easier than one might have expected. Bobby had not minded so much following Kate earlier, but now her ability to grasp the end result of things was at it's end. Part of self reliance means that one doesn't need others. They would know their own endgame, and they'd be able to adjust for it as needed. This was totally different: Bobby was in the dark, completely trusting Kate's designs. The feeling of powerlessness was palpable, and that was atop her thoughts from earlier. In fact, her whole day seemed to be compiling into a huge file of anxiety, but she wasn't sure what it was exactly that was causing it anymore. The source was most likely a lot of things, rather than just one.

Bobby was still fixating on these events. This was supposed to be another, ordinary, simple set of twenty-four hours. Instead it was turning out to be fairly life-changing, if only in a passive sense. Bobby wouldn't walk away from these encounters the same no matter how it all turned out, but damn if she wasn't trying to understand exactly what this fog settling in her head was obscuring from her heart. All at once, Kate's voice called out to her and the fog of ideas lifted, but whatever it had hidden behind it had sunk into the ocean of her mind. They had arrived at the casino. Bobby was aware of this, as she wasn't dumb to her surroundings but she wasn't really in a state of mind to consciously tell herself that they'd arrived.

"I.. I've never been in a casino before." It was true. Bobby wasn't a gambler by trade. She always relied on herself, so why rely on luck? Not to say that she didn't believe in lucky, and she had by all counts been lucky quite a few times, evading either embarrassing situations or lethal ones. But gambling was something she was only comfortable in doing when it at least required some skill. She never had seen card games or dice as requiring such things, believing to be mostly based on luck if not entirely. "I'm not sure if I mentioned that at the apartment or not... what would you recommend for a first timer?"

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Mae just asked for Kate's advise on which game would be best for a beginner. "Well generally the more simple the game the higher the house advantage which basically screws new people over. I would recommend black jack. Its a simple game and the house advantage is not very high at all if you have a general idea of what you are doing which is what I'm going to tell you. You start with two cards one face up and one face down. You can look at your bottom card and nobody else knows what it is. The cards face number is its value while cards like the king and queen are 10. So if you get a jack and a 3 you would have 13 points. On your turn you can ask for more cards or keep the points that you have. 21 points is as high as you can go. Any higher and you'll bust losing whatever you bet for that hand. Many people think the goal of the game is to get as close to 21 as you can without busting, that isn't it. The goal of the game is to beat the dealer. The dealer has an advantage though in that they win ties and they are the last to be dealt their cards. the dealer also has a certain goal they go far such as 17." Kate informed her companion while she let her to a black jack table. "Oh and another thing aces can be two different number of your choosing. They can be 11 or 1, this makes them very handy wild cards."

Having found a table with room for two Kate sat down on one of the provided chairs. Kate then laid down $20 worth of chips and got dealt a hand. "Why don't you watch me the first round." Kate said before taking a peak at her face down card." Her bottom card was an ace and her top card was another ace. Kate was going to win this one simply because she willed it to happen. She was the goddess of fortune after all. She asked for 2 more cards which were a two and an eight which equaled 21 in total. Not that it mattered the dealer busted anyways.

Second round came and Kate encouraged Mae to join. Again Kate put 20$ on the table. This time around Kate was going to lose, Kate didn't know how Mae would fair however. Kate ended up starting with 16 and stuck with it. Now she turned to see what Mae did assuming she joined the game.

Bobby listened intently as Kate explained the rules of the game called "Black Jack". Bobby had heard of this game before but had never taken anything more than a passive interest in it. She's seen it on television, mostly. Sometimes at the sporting goods store the managers would talk about playing the game, but until now that had been the extent of her familiarity with it. Sure, Kate made it sound simple and clean but there was the unpredictability of it. Ironically enough, everything was still certain, right? It was all determined the moment deck had been completely shuffled.

So, a game of chance at it's finest. Kate placed her bet and sat down, twenty dollars in chips resting on the table up for wager. While twenty dollars wasn't a whole lot of money to Bobby, she felt it was an excessive amount to wager on such a throwaway game. She was beginning to suspect that maybe Kate had a gambling problem, but she was reluctant to assume such. She veiled the concern on her face with mild interest, somewhat eager to see what would unfold in this round. She never got to see Kate's cards, though. The dealer busted, and Kate doubled her money.

Interesting. It was no wonder people gambled.

Bobby didn't need much encouragement after that, though Kate sure didn't hurt matters. She quickly took her place next to Kate, seating herself and buying her way in. Just like Kate, she offered up twenty dollars, and was dealt two cards. Her cards were the King of Spades and the Jack of Diamonds. She remembered what Kate hold told her, and behind her two cards mouthed, "Twenty," to herself. So, she needed a one, or an ace. She exhaled deeply. That wasn't likely to happen. She was going to bust and lose her money!

The "house" looked at her expectantly, a well dressed and dapper gentleman looking her over with a kind of snooty, if not plain holier-than-thou expression plastered plainly on his face. "Hit or stay," he seemed to state in her direction, but not exactly at her. It was almost as if the man was looking through her, analyzing her, and for but a brief moment Bobby felt very uncomfortable. A pause that lasted another moment more and he called out, "Hie or stay" once more.

"Stay," responded an uncertain Bobby, waiting to see what would transpire.

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Kate saw Mae mouth twenty to herself and no doubt the dealer did as well. Not a good habit. It wasn't a big deal at black jack since the dealer followed a formula but at something like texas hold em such a move would spell your ruin. Kate actually quite enjoyed texas holdem better than any of the other games. There was more strategy to it than any other gambling game out there. It is also the game of choice for those who are good at reading people. If your people skills are not the best then it would be best you stay away from it.

Focusing her attention back on the game at hand Kate saw the dealer get 18 and as his formula dictates was forced to stay on that. Mae ended up doubling her money and as Kate had expected she herself lost what was won just moments ago. Putting another 20 dollars in Kate let natural chance handle itself. Indeed she did spend a lot but as stated before money is of no concern to Kate. Even if it wasn't so easy for Kate to earn when she wanted she still wouldn't but any value upon it. After all money does not buy people or errr well it use to but that isn't quite what she meant. Receiving her cards Kate got a meager 8 in total. Receiving an 6 Kate chose to stick with what she now had. Again she diverted her attention to see how Mae fared.

Bobby felt elation rush through her mind as she saw the cards the dealer laid out. Eighteen. He got an eighteen! Her eyes were wide with excitement, a broad and prideful smile crossing her face. She looked over to Kate anxiously and back to her own hand, the glee evident on her face! What a rush! To place her luck squarely on fate's shoulders and let destiny decided her fortune... it was a scary idea to Bobby, still. She didn't rely on anything if she could help it. Not her parents, not her dad, not even pure and dumb luck. It usually just left an odd taste in her mouth, but this time it was sweet instead of bitter.

Bobby's next hand was far more meager. An eight and a three- for a total of eleven. She nervously bit her lip- not a good hand, but maybe she could work with it? She looked up at the man, falling slightly into the rhythm by now. "Hit," she said to the man. He nodded and placed another card before her from the deck. She took it cautiously, before a relieved grin overcame her. A ten! Well, a queen to be more precise. He placed the cards down, smiling. "I got twenty one!" The dealer shot her a look. It wasn't particularly cruel, but he did it as though to say to keep it down.

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Kate could see the pure joy overflowing from Mae, as she won her first hand. Kate of course congratulated her. As the next round came around Mae happened to get 21 a near guaranteed win. Her spirits continued to soar and Kate couldn't help feeling happy because Mae was feeling happy. A thought sparked in Kate's mind. If she had not the control of luck she would never visit a place like this. Well she would but only for the card games against other people. Even then such a thing could hosted in the comfort of home. Casinos were certainly not pleasant place at least not to Kate it wasn't. Flashing lights and noises coming from every inch of the building. Not to mention the horrific smell of smoke. It was unfortunate that these places where Kate's main source of income. At least she only had to visit them after long periods of being away from them. The reason she had chose to come here with Mae was because she knew people tend to have a good time here. Heck many where addicted to it.

Suddenly Kate was snapped from her thoughts when she noticed the dealer shooting Mae a discouraging look. Kate was greatly angered by this. He had no right to suppress her friends excitement. She shot him a cold glare that made him flinch and take a step back. Nothing can bare its fangs better than a wolf. After the dealer recovered he continued the round and busted. Kate gathered her chips and suggested to Mae they find a different table. "Now if we were here to make money; a foolish goal to have, we could go out the door with our decent winnings. I know not everyone's minds work the same way I do. Would you be happier to leave now with what you have won and we can find something else to do or stay here and for certain lose what you have won? I ask that you give no thought to the money. I will gladly remembrance anything you have lost. Rather what would make you more happy? If we leave I assure you we can find something just as fun if not funner than this casino."

Unavoidable Suspicion - Page 2 Empty Re: Unavoidable Suspicion

Post by Riley Oran Sun Oct 19, 2014 9:37 am

The moment Bobby shrunk back from the man's glance it seemed as though he in turn shrunk away from something too. Bobby, still making herself appear much smaller than she was, let her eyes trace about the room looking for the source of the man's sudden discomfort. She didn't actually find anything, and didn't even think to suspect Kate. Sure, her friend was different but Bobby hadn't yet thought of her as scary. Maybe some strange combination of reckless and careful, but that didn't indicate anything about the strange behavior of the dealer. Bobby was just considering her course of action when she heard the clicking of casino chips beside her.

Her eyes lifted to Kate's face. "A different table...?" Bobby mulled it over in her head. On the one hand, she was actually familiar with this game a little bit now and felt confident in doing well here. On the other, there were so many games to try out. And then there were Kate's brown eyes seeming to stare into her, analyzing her moves. She felt that unfamiliar sensation rise up in her stomach again, and that all-too-familiar sense of pressure coming from needing to make a potentially important choice. She didn't want to disappoint Kate, now did she? She seemed to reflect this fairly deep level of thought in her head for a fleeting second before nodding at Kate.

"I'm fine with doing what you want," Bobby gave the most spineless answer she could, trying to demonstrate interest and neutrality all at once. She did elaborate however, with, "Don't get me wrong, this place seems to be pretty fun. I don't really know that I would be here on my own, but coming with a friend to just hang out and gamble every once and a while seems like it would be a blast." She tried her best to give an earnest smile, but it came across as awkward even though the intent easily shined through. "But you showed me this place, and it was fun, so if you're done here, then I am too, because I think you might know more places to go." She was trying to explain her first statement, but did worry that she wasn't doing it so well. Sometimes she got even more awkward when she tried not to be, and her words got muddled up in her head.

"Well then I would prefer to find something else to do. The scents here burn my nose more so than this city already does." Kate said before making her way out with Mae. "The only problem is I do not know this city at all, so I turn to you. Is there anything you have always wanted to do?" Kate asked. If Mae couldn't come up with anything Kate did have one idea in mind, shopping. Kate knew Mae wasn't much for femininity but Kate was probably going to pick some womanly clothing for her anyways and make her try them on. Kate was going to enjoy it but she did not know if Mae would. Hopefully Mae came up with something she would enjoy better.
