Regenesis Virus

A powerful virus created by an artificial being, the RE:Genesis Virus (eventually designated Regenesis) was capable of affecting both artificial and organic organisms, altering them on a molecular level. In artificial minds it was a simple altering of the programming language and their protocol, making them into rouge elements. In organic minds, it drove many of them insane.

Physically many artificial organisms had a fundamental change in appearance. The general changed varied, but one common theme were the ever-present black 'veins' that always seemed to appear randomly on the skin. The organic creatures typically gained striking purple eyes to indicate their infection.

However, all creatures infected with the Regenesis experience a type of forced evolution. Organic beings experienced total cell death only for their cells to regenerate fully a short time later, granting them new abilities. Artificial beings were forced into a state of shut-down while the Regenesis virus completely restructured their physical forms to more combat-oriented ones.

While the progenitor of the virus was eventually defeated, its effects lingered and without the entity controlling it the Virus weakened. However, its new weakened state allowed it to pass through dimensional barriers, and it fundamentally altered many energy beings into Sin Eaters and their various forms.
